Message #1 Posted by Eric Edwards on 10 July 2002, 9:29 p.m.

Does anyone know if all the Pioneers use excatly the same Vinyl Pouch. If there is a difference are you able to point out what this difference is?

I am looking for the HP Part Numbers for the 32SII pouch and also 42S and 20S and 32S.

HP Part No. Vinyl Case 32SII?

What is the part number for the Pioneer Battery door? i.e. 32SII (The semi purple/transparent plastic piece protecting the battery compartment)

HP Part No. Battery Door 32SII?

Finnaly what is the Part Number for the Manual(english)for: HP Part No. Manual 32S?

HP Part No. Manual 32SII?

I don't know the exact hierarchy for Pioneer part numbers, but I can empirically assert that both the pouch and the battery door fit on all models.

I don't know about the part numbers, but there are (at least) two different pouches:

The better (I think) higher-end pouch is stitched together, and is formed from a relatively complex vinyl material with a leather-like grain on the outside and a nylon-ish, fabric-like texture on the inside. I find these easier to use, as the calculator slides in and out smoothly.

The lower-end pouch (which I believe was consistently provided with the lower-end models like the 20S) has "welded" (melted-together) seams and is formed from a solid vinyl without a padded texture. I find these to be all but useless, as once the calculator is crammed all the way in, the slick vinyl inside grabs on and won't let go. (Maybe if I used one more regularly, it would expand and better serve its purpose, but I've not bothered to break one in.)

I seem to have 1 of each:

HP32SII bought in 1999 - Vinyl / nylon with internal stiching.

HP42S made in 1989 - Vinyl only with external welded seam.

So the ealier higher spec machine has the cheaper case? The welded version is loose enough to slip on/off OK, the stiched version is still a tight fit.

Tom.

I don't know how many were made, but I have seen the 42s shown with a hard plastic slide on cover like some of the TI calcs have. So I guess you can say there are 3 different pouch/covers HP offered with this series of calcs. Then there are about 4 independent companies that make or made pouches, hard plastic cases, hard leather cases and soft leather cases for this series as well. And as far as I am aware, they are all interchangeable within the series.

Make that 4 different pouches. I bought the optional HP black leather pouch back in the '80s with my HP-27S. I still use the leather pouch with my HP-32SII because I like it a lot better than the cheap vinyl ones.

I'm don't think that which version of the slip case was included with the calculator was related to how much the unit cost. Rather, it had more to do with when the calculator was made. All of the cheap-looking ones that I have came with early production units (pre-1990) of all types (20S, 14B 32S, 42S), but I haven't really been able to correlate the change between styles to an exact date, since there seems to have been some overlap.
