Message #1 Posted by steve leong on 4 July 2002, 8:11 a.m.

Can anyone tell me which calculators have been made in the USA? also what years they were made here?

For sure, the HP11C and the HP15C were made in the USA in the early eighties. I had a HP11C, now dead, and still have a working HP15C. The HP67 was made in the USA, too (I have got one from eBay, but it's not in good condition).

I am sure that my 55, 45 and 25 are American made. I bought them in late 1974 and early 1975. My 1981 41c and my 1982 28s are also American, for sure.

Hi;

there are some ladies built in USA, and the HP48SX and the HP16C were both of them; at least mine are. At the time they were available, some HewPack calcs were produced here, in Brazil (HP11C, HP12C, HP15C, HP41C/CV) and others in Singapure (both 82104A - card reader - and 82143A - Printer - are from there).

My US$ 0.15.

Luiz, may I ask you, in a spirit of friendship, not to refer to that once-proud company as "HewPack"? Either "Hewlett-Packard" or "HP" (pronounced "Aitch-Pee") are fine. The company may now be a shambles that is easily outclassed by TI or even Casio, but even I draw the line at calling it something that sounds like a drunk vomiting.

Kind Regards,

That was for shorten, never to turn Hewlett-Packard's good name into a shambles. I always try not to make confusion with the company's shorten HP and dimensional units, so I do not use it as often.

I'll gracefully accept the request, as I completely agree with it. As no one else mentioned before, I was sure it would be sort of fancy reference. Anyway, as long as I remember, I did not read any one else using this short reference of mine.

Thanks calling my attention. The explanation goes to anyone that have not been reading my posts in here and does not know how I consider the brand and its creators.

Cheers.

Thanks, Luiz. I, for one, appreciate it. It's a small thing, but it really grates . . .

Best,

What a nice gesture!

HEWPACK and variations are the cable addresses for the various HP offices around the world. HEWPACK alone is Palo Alto. I don't know who assigned those addresses.

Hi;

again, thanks Ellis and R.D.Bärtschiger.

I felt myself confused because of Les Bell's request, but I felt constrained and I decided to decline. Also, Jordi Hidalgo's agreement made me think that was the best decision.

As I mentioned before, I used to believe that using this shorten version of Hewlett-Packard's name was fancy; from now on, keeping that practice is not enough reason to harm neighborhood. I understand that it is not good practice, so I'll turn that off, mostly because I respect everyone that participates in this forum.

Thank you all.

I have heard these calculators being refered to as 'HewPac' since at least 1973.
