Here we go again. The "We (collectors, etc) have a right and deserve to own all the HP 42S calculators that are made, and if we cannot, we don't want others to have them" mentality.

If a person knows that 42S calculators are popular and gets hold of a few, they surely would know about the HP Museum. So why don't they appear in the Museum's classified section, since there is a captive audience who would pay top dollar with the added advantage of no selling fees ?

I am guessing that it is not worth the hassle dealing with some of the people who read the HP Museum classified ads.

I just received my calc that was forwarded by a friend. (Again many thanks, T. !).

SN is ID02702605.

I also ordered 00042-90020 (Programming Examples and Techniques four your HP-42S Calculator), which is some pendant of Standard pac for the 42S.

It's really as shame to provide such bad quality items. The manual is a plastic spiral bound bad photocopy/print of the original manual. They sell that for $34, which is an awful amount of money for what it is.

Something I've always appreciated on HP calcs was the quality of their manuals. Now it seems that even this has gone away...

I would definitely have preferred to pay $10 to download a .pdf file rather than getting this bunch of crap...

Really I'm outraged...

Sad to see HP fall so far.

My solution to get both HP42s manuals was to print out the pdf files with a laser printer and spiral bind them at Kinko's. The PDF files print to full 8 1/2 by 11 page, but really quite readable.

I've received manuals like that from HP before. For what it's worth, HP considers that they are providing reprints of out-of-production manuals as a service to their customers.

One manual I got had a great number of individual dots missing. A message added on a cover sheet said the manual had been scanned into a computer and was then reprinted on demand. They must have used some kind of noise reduction software on the images. You know how in a table of contents there will be a row of dots from the text to the page number? About half of those dots were missing. Also periods at the end of sentences and decimal points in numbers - not helpful in tables of specifications and calibration instructions!
