HP 8756- help!!!
Message #1 Posted by Scottp1 on 16 May 2002, 12:53 p.m.

Ok, I've got a friend who has an HP8756, and her hdd crashed. Not a problem, I replaced it, no sweat. The problem I AM having is that I cant seem to find in the documentation she has or anything else, what type of modem her Pavilion has. Therefore, when I installed Win2k for her( her Win ME kept crashing, go figure) apparently the driver database on the OS didnt have them, so its just showing up as '14.4 dial up modem'. Obviously thats not the case, I'm sure it was just Windows saying 'we cant find em, but this the closest we CAN find'. Can ANYONE tell me what type of dial up modem these Hp Pavilion 8756 carry, and/or where the drivers are located? I cannot find them on this site, and I'd really like to help her get back on the net, but as of right now, no modem tones, nothing. Thanks!

The manual for the HP Pavillion 8756 modem is located here

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/manindex/hppavilion25728_eng_man.html

I use a Rockwell HCF PCI driver on my 8595c Computer

You could also try unistalling and reinstalling the device

I know, I uninstalled it, but again, Windows doesnt seem to have the correct drivers, generic or otherwise, for the modem. Any possibility you know where I can get said drivers? Please?

Does anyone have any info on this by chance? I am willing to try and use a generic driver(Haines, etc) but I dont have the tower in front of me so I dont know if its one of those HP's that have the integrated sound card/modem.

I just need some drivers, I cant believe this is that difficult, but its driving me mad:\ Sometimes being helpful doesnt pay off it seems:)

This isn't a quick solution, but I have found that HP customer service will send you the latest software for things for free - at least, they sent me the CD for a digital camera that I bought from a discount store as a display model without any accessories. I bought some other items for the camera from the HP parts online store that came surprisingly cheaply. The online store policy is that there is never a shipping charge as it is built into the price. I think this is why most things cost at least $6 - things like the Voyager slip covers and even some individual screws! The camera items I ordered included one booklet for $1, another booklet for $0.50, a cable for $6, and the wrist strap (important because it includes a little tool used to pull the memory card out) for $0.11! Then everything came in separate big padded envelopes.
