HP-41 cx and card reader.
Message #1 Posted by Dave on 9 Apr 2002, 12:19 p.m.

I install a card reader on my CX and i can't make the card motor to run. I have alle the fonctions available (cat-2) but if i put my calc in "program mode", load my program into "ram" from cat-1 Then insert the card, the motor don't take the card (it don't run)

I try others fonctions that write "CARD" on the LCD and when i enter the card nothing too; it's like the card reader don't detect the presence of the card

Perhaps it's more trivial; did i miss a command to do before using the card reader?

I opened the reader and the motor run free, the wheel is ok. I notice a kind of "LED" inside the reader is it an optical detection for the presence of the card?

Thank you for any help Dave

Don't get me wrong here, but have you checked the batteries? The reader is very consuming and if your batteries are some kind of weak, it won't run. (Happend to me before). Regards Stephan.

Hi;

Stephan is right, but something else must be considered. If batteries are low, the BAT annunciator turns on and a LOW BATT is shown in the display everytime a card operation is performed. I believe something wrong in the card-insertion sensor (contacts) is the cause.

Maintaining the card reader can be shown here. If there is no reaction in the calculator when the card is inserted, then something beyond batteries must be checked. As mentioned, at least CAT 2 returns all reader functions. It means electronics are (probably) fine.

Cheers.

I agree 100%.

That is an old , motorized unit & it needs maintenance.

I had to rebuild mine two years ago. It has nothing to do with the batteries. Motors wear out! Even HP ones ;)
