HP-49G whats next?
Message #1 Posted by Aruid on 21 Jan 2002, 8:32 p.m.

Does anyone know what the newest HP calculator will be? I think the HP-49G would be perfect if it had a little bigger screen (higher resolution), an internal clock, and an IR port. What ever happened to IR ports on HP Calcs? Didn't the HP-48 series have IR ports? They should atleast sell an external IR transciever for the HP-49G. This would enable the user to communicate with almost ALL new laptops without a cable and transfer files to other calcs without a cable not to mention change TV stations! Hey with an internal clock you could program it to record your favorite show at a certain time! (yes I know thats not what calcs are for :p )

Aruid:

Unless I've missed something, there will be no new HP calculator. From everything I've read, I gather that HP has left the calculator business for good. They just disbanded the Australian operation, where the calculators were being designed and produced.

Awful, ain't it?

BTW, the 49G has an internal clock, of course.

The 49G has more features than an HP-48, lacking only the IR (not important for me), and a good keyboard;-)

If it had a better keyboard with the big ENTER key in the usual position, maybe I'd use a 49, too. So I stick with my 48;-)

I agree on the strange keyboard, and the not-HP-at-all slimline design. My respond was "Aaargh - a new Texas calculator" when I say the 49G for the first time...
