HP-71B ROMs - ID ???
Message #1 Posted by Mike on 4 Jan 2002, 7:42 p.m.

I have 4 HP-71B ROMS. They are marked with what appear to be military designations.

USA, Rev 0, M109A2A3, M198 1 of 2 USA, Rev 0, M109A2A3, M198 2 of 2 USA, Rev 0, M110A2, 1 of 2 USA, Rev 0, M110A2, 2 of 2

All are dated 1985.

I did a search just of the part numbers and come up with references to 109mm Howitzer, as you might expect.

I then contacted an Artillery group and asked if they ever used HP handhelds in conjunction with the use of these guns. The response I got back was yes, and was given dates that match the time that the HP-71B was released.

Anyone have any idea if that was the use of these ROMs? If not, anyone have any idea what these ROMs are use with?

Hi,

I think they were used for ballistic calculations.

Did you try CATaloging the ROMS to see what they hold?

CAT :PORT(1)

Maybe there is something of use hidden in one of them.

I did a Catalog of the ROMs and here is what was listed:

ROM-1 contained: VAL1, CKSUM0, WPNREL, WPNR1, BALDAT, CKSUM1, CMPT SHEAF, ZTOZ, DISORD, FMSN, CKSUM2, FMSN1, FMSN2 CORD, POLAR, SHIFT, CKSUM3, REGIST, RECPOL, GZ, REGCOR, BUCS

ROM-2 Contained: TARGET, CKSUM4, REGFIL, BTYDAT, BAMOUP, HICORD, INIT MVFILE, CKSUM5, CMTOBM, AFU, OK, METFIL METINI, OTFILE, SPPORT, TGTOBS

The other set of ROMs contain the same into.

Some of the catalog items seem to fit the use of these ROMs in targeting for Artillery.
