HP-71B Programs (or, I want my babies back!) Message #1 Posted by Michael Meyer, M.D. on 11 Nov 2001, 6:34 p.m. Hello again, HP fans: I've been having problems trying to figure out, even with the explanation in the articles section, how to transfer HP-71 programs and lexfiles to a 9114 compatible floppy disk. Does anyone have a collection already on a floppy they could be kind enough to send my way? Joe Horn sent me one over 15 years ago, but it was stolen by someone who wanted to "borrow" it. I didn't have a 9114 drive then, but now I *really* wish I still had that disk! Thanks, Michael

If they have the format of the swap disks on the HP Museum site, then all you need to do is to strip the first 32 bytes from the file and then enter this information in the 9114 directory. I have a program that does this but runs under a Unix (or Unix-like) operating system. If you simply have the files without the special directory information, then you have to guess at what you have to place in the floppy directory entry. One way of doing the above is to use the LIFUTIL software to copy the file to the 9114 disk and then use the sector editor to change the file type in the directory entry. One word of advice, though. Use a new floppy because messing with the sector editor may well make you disk unusable. If you do not have one of the old double density floppies, you can use a new (standard PC) floppy, provided you cover the quad density hole (across from the READ/WRITE hole) with a piece of tape. Also, use the 71B and the 9114 drive to format the floppy, using a PC drive for the formatting is not reliable. **vp

I know all this is possible; though it takes some time! I was just hoping someone already had a floppy or two with all the 71 programs already on it.
