32SII bug
Message #1 Posted by db(martinez,california) on 1 Nov 2001, 2:07 a.m.

my old 32SII ser # 3224S01826 has never liked to give even fractions. it's forever giving things like 500/999 in fdisp mode for a 0.5 entry. i was playing with my old boss's new 32 ser # 1D11502082 and i see that his gives correct reduced fractions. the only fractions i use are to convert from decimal feet to eighthts of an inch & back so i don't use it anyway. i was just wondering; is it the new paint job or what?

Have you checked flags 8 and 9 and the max denominators?

It sounds like they're set differently. If you set your max denominator to 999 and set flag 8 and clear flag 9, then the calc will display .5 as 500/999 (This forces denominators to be some factor of 999 so a denominator of 2 is not allowed.)

By default flag 8 is cleared. This is "most precise" mode.

I seem to remember that early 32SII indeed had a buggy version of the firmware; this was corrected in later versions.

You might want to check http://www.finseth.com/~fin/hpdata/hp32sii.html.
