Information on HP 8953A RF Transmitter & Receiver Test Systems - and software
Message #1 Posted by Dennis J. Barney on 31 Oct 2001, 1:07 a.m.

Hello, I recently purchased an HP 8953A RF Transmitter and Receiver Test System. This is a system made up of an HP 8901A Modulation Analyzer, an HP 8903A Audio Analyzer, and an HP 8656A Signal Generator; in conjunction with an HP 8954A Transceiver Interface - all controlled by software via the HPIB (ieee 488) interfaces. The system components all have the system label with the same system serial number on them in addition to their individual serial numbers. Included were HPIB cables, an HPIB interface module for an HP 85 computer, and the software and basic starter pack for the HP 85 computer.

What I am looking for is anyone that has knowledge of this system and possibly software that will run under DOS / Windows to control the system - rather than using an HP 85.

I have heard that their are HP user's web sites for all types of equipment - but this is the only one I found. If anyone has any thoughts or insights into this equipment or where more info / software could be located or purchased, please email me. I appreciate your assistance in advance.

Although I do not have any special knowledge of this particular system, basically you have some test equipment, HPIB interface and some software for old computer.

Company National Instruments sell the IEEE488 cards for PC computers. They also sell the Windows platform for controlling various intruments via IEEE-488 called LabView. The programs for the old HP-85 was written in BASIC, so I suppose that it should not be so hard to rewrite them for Visual Basic under MS-Windows.
