New Display on HP48GX
Message #1 Posted by Jack Neely on 30 Oct 2001, 3:47 p.m.

Has anyone else discovered that the LCD displays on the 48GX's produced in 2001 (maybe sooner) have been upgraded to the 49 display? The display is much clearer with much better contrast. I like it so much that I cann't use the older 48GX's anymore.

How does one identify the newer 48GX's with the better LCD display without opening the packaging and looking at the serial number on the back of the calculator? If you place them side by side, turned off, can you tell the difference in LCD... different shade of green ?

What kind of packaging did the new 48GX come in ?

Is the ROM still rev. R ?

Hello;

sorry, I did not understand. I have an HP49G and the display is dark-gray (dots) with blue-colored state annunciators. I have two 48-series (48SX and 48G+) and they have all-blue LCD's. Are the new 48's comming with dark-gray LCD's? If so, that's really great!

Yes, the newer 48GX's are comming out with dark-gray LCDs. The display is so much easier to read than the all-blue LCD. I liked it so much I bought two of them (one for safe keeping). I was lucky finding the new HP48GX's at Office Depot. I don't really know how to tell the difference between them but get you if you can.
