Self-test for HP-IL module?
Message #1 Posted by Brian on 21 Sept 2001, 2:32 a.m.

Many years ago I bought the HP-IL module for my CX and a HPIL converter-I/O box made by Axonix. Never did get the box to respond to any HP-IL commands. Since then, I never got another HP-IL box or device to test my module to determine if my module was actually at fault. Is there a way to determine if a HP-IL module is working without connecting it to anything ( just looping the two connectors only ) ?

I'm by no means an expert in this, but according to my recollection the best way is to connect the two plugs at each end of the loop (close the loop) and turn on the HP41.. - If the loop is good the 41c turns on almost instantly, if it's broken it takes a while, just as the 'open loop' takes a while longer.

I tried your suggestion and it looks like my HP-IL module is good. With the loop open, it takes about 0.9 sec. for my CX LCD display to turn on. With the loop closed, it takes about 0.1 sec.

Thanks Kim
