Which retailer should we support?
Message #1 Posted by Michael Vang on 30 Aug 2001, 2:01 p.m.

I need to purchase another HP calculator and I don't know whether or not there is a retailer we are supposed to support... I used to deal with EduCalc, but...

If not I guess I'll just buy direct from HP...

You just may have to. The local office supply stores in my area only carry the Hp business line and SOMETIMES the Hp20 and Hp30.

Also Office depot has the Hp49, but I don't know whether it is a stock item or not or only a display to order by.

Any other info out there?

I'm actually looking for another 32SII, so going local is not an option...

I just thought maybe there was a retailer that was worth supporting because they give a bit back to the HP community... I really miss EduCalc...

I don't mind paying a few extra bux towards a good cause...

Have a college in town? If so there is a reasonable chance of finding an HP-32SII in the college bookstore.

The MicroCenter computer retail chain also stocks HP calcs including the 32SII (at least the Denver outlet does).

Thanks for the tip... I live within walking distance from the Duke bookstore... I picked up another 32SII today from them for $61 which is a fair price, I think...

Isn't that a personal choice? Anyway, most University Book Stores carry HP Calculators.

If you are looking for an on-line merchant, I recently bought from Samson Cables. Their service was excellent in my opinion.

Try CalcPro:

www.calcpro.com

or 888.200.4220

They got me an HP40g for my collection and they carry spare parts as well as a full line of calculators.... ' Hope they are still in business...it's tough to sell HP these days.

This time, it came up -- slowly, but it did. FWIW.

I just bought a 48G+ from Electronic Products, Inc. ( www.electronicprods.com ) -- decent price, EXCELLENT service. (If the HP "Top Secret Deals" rebate actually comes through, then you missed it!)

You might give them a look.

If you live in California, try Fry's Electronics; that's where I got my 32SII. You can also try CalcPro (www.calcpro.com).

I just wanted to express my happiness with Samson Cables (www.samsoncables.com) as a vendor! I recommend them! They are an authorized HP reseller.

I bought an HP-49G at the time that HP was offering the rebates and bought from Samson Cables, because I saw a link to them from the www.hpcalc.org site that indicated that they had the best prices. I did some more searching and found out that that was indeed the case.

Samson Cables QUICKLY send me a brand new HP-49G, packaged safely. Unfortunately, that HP-49G turned out to be defective (which could not have been discovered without actually opening the package and trying it, because it would appear to work for a while and then automatically turn off, but in far less than the 10 minutes (it was more like a minute or less!).

Chris Edmunds of Samson Cables quickly arranged for return and provided help when UPS botched the delivery back to the distributor.

So, considering Samson Cables had the best price, quick delivery, and good followup service (which helped me get past the defective initial unit and the UPS problem), I highly recommend Samson Cables! I note that they even sell used HP calculators and accessories.
