Is there a way to change Red Display Lens
Message #1 Posted by Mike on 9 Dec 2000, 8:20 p.m.

on a classic calculator. I have two 67s and one has a crack in the red lens but it's case is better than the other case, which has some bad electronics.

I'd like to swap red lenses. Has anyone ever done that? Is there some trick to removing the lens. I have not done anything so far for fear of damaging them beyond repair.

Hi Mike,

I have done a similar thing with a HP41. on the 41, the plastic is glued in, so I basically swabbed some isopropanol around the area to dissolved/soften the glue, then waited of about fifteen minutes before gently pushing the plastic lens out. I don't know whether classics are glued in like the 41, so this may not help at all. The only thing against this method, was the isopropanol left a milky colored stain on the plastic, but I managed to remove this with some car polish.
