I doubt it work work- judging from the HP42S situation Message #6 Posted by Iqbal Mohammed on 27 Nov 2000, 5:11 p.m., in response to message #5 by Jan
With respect to the HP42S, they are not actually manufactured by HP, but it is given out on contract to another company to build/assemble. The last set was manufactured in June this year. I spoke to the guy at HP who is in charge of placing the orders for the 42S calculators and he says it has reached the End of Line.
I am aware that there are still parts available to build the 42S, but HP is adamant that they would not continue to build the 42S because it has stopped, even though there are still parts available.
So to be honest I don't believe any quantity of HP27S would sway HP. I think when a calculator has been discontinued it takes a lot of red tape to bring it back into production. The 42S although it was discontined, it was still manufactured in small quantities if only to service 'dead' ones.
Also, the 42S was produced on the HP17BII production line. Stopping the line for a few days or even few weeks and making a batch of 42Ss is not a big deal.
But now that it has reached EOL it's history.
It's that simple, although hard to accept and understand.
But then anything is worth a try at least once I say.
