Problem with display on HP41CX
Message #1 Posted by Iqbal on 29 Oct 2000, 8:46 p.m.

Just going through my small calculator collection and I noticed that the lower half of the display in my HP41CX, is dimmer than the top half. I am using a rechargeable battery pac and the battery signal is off. So I think I can safely eliminate the thought of low power. Any ideas as to what might be the problem. Is it possible that the display could dry up?

Iqbal,

My first guess would be a flaky pressure contact between the top and bottom halves of your calculator. Try flexing, twisting it a little in your hands and see if it has any effect on the display.

I tried twisting it around and it does come on brighter. Thanks Viktor. Iqbal

Iqbal, If you are seeing all segments on, but some are dimmer than others, then your problem is the contact strips between the display glass and the display circuit board. I take it we are talking about a halfnut ?. You need to unsolder the display, remove the black metal clips, clean the contacts on the circuit board, display glass, and contact strips. Reassemble, and that should fix it.
