help with hp11c PLEASE!!!
Message #1 Posted by amaya moro-martin on 5 Sept 2000, 1:53 p.m.

Hello, a few days ago my HP11C started showing a FLASHING STAR in the lower left corner of the display. I haven't been able to find in the manual what this message meant. I've tried erasing the permanent memory (with -/on) but the flashing star still appears. When I do the x/on test for the electronic circuits I get a positive resoponse (i.e. all those -8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8) but when I do the (division sign/on) test I get Error 9, instead of 11, so I guess something is wrong with the keys. But I still could use the calculator...until this morning. Now the calculator is not working at all. None of the keys are responding. DOES ANYBODY KNOWS WHERE I CAN GET MY HP11C REPAIRED? Please, email me at amaya@as.arizona.edu THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Amaya Moro-Martin.

the flashing asterisk is the low power indicator; time to change the batteries. if the display no longer functions, the batteries are completely dead, and you have probably lost continuous memory as well.

sounds as though you just need new batteries.

The flashing start means that the batteries are low... you have something like 2 or 3 hours of normal use and 30 minutes program use.

Do ghange them asap, or you'll loose everything in permanent memory

Try the ON/: test after having your batteries replaced...

NB : when I was a student, I loved this flashing asterisk, and I often took one of the batteries off, replaced by a paper clip.... I pretended I could access machine code and have this asterisk flahing at will... I was then considered as the God of HP programmers with my shcool mates :-)
