How to get a new HP42S? Message #1 Posted by Tom Peddle (UK) on 23 Aug 2000, 2:19 p.m.
All
HP don't seem at all interested in producing the HP42S (or a good sucessor). HP may have some HP42's lurking around in an office somewhere, but probably don't want to sell them due to mucking up sales of their new calculators and issues of support etc.
One possible way of getting HP to make some (or sell what they have) would be a subscription. I'd guess you would need about 1000 or so orders with money up front and an understanding that they were only replaced if faulty in the first 12 months with NO support after. (HP might have to make available 1100 or so to cover faulty ones over the first 12 months)
I would probably put in an order for 2 or 3 calculators for $100 each if this got off the ground. So you would only need 300 people for it to possibly work.
Am I just dreaming, or would HP do this as a sign off to their great past and loyal users?
Does anyone here (including the curator) know if HP would go for such a deal?
Would prices get out of hand once the collectors had latched onto the idea?
Tom.
