HP41 Nicad Pack. Question of age?
Message #1 Posted by Steve on 16 Aug 2000, 7:53 p.m.

I just received an HP41 Nicad pack from a person I contaced via the classified ads section.

RELAX -- The pack's great, this is not a complaint :-D

It has a date code that indicates it was manufactured mid 1994. That's quite recent. I was surprised. Should I have been?

When was the last of these manufactured? I assume it would have been near the end of the 5 years of support after the HP41 was withdrawn. When was that?

It's settled down to hold a charge of around 5.6V after being on charge for about 12 hours (it was 5.85V just after charging). Is this reasonable? It's somewhat higher than the nominal 4.8V for a 4 cell pack.

Gee, so much I don't know.

5.6V is quite normal for 4 fully charged NiCd cells. As for the date, I don't know when the last one was made, but I think you're right on the mark with your guess that it was probably made near the very end of HP's support commitment for the 41 series.
