HP42s - need repair advice
Message #1 Posted by Craig on 7 Aug 2000, 7:09 p.m.

My HP42s is working only part of the time. It seems to be a problem with the battery contacts. Batteries are brand new but calculator stops working after a few hours or minutes. Sometimes if you remove and replace the batteries it works again, or not. I'm not electronic repair inclined and I need suggestions on how to proceed. In the meantime I am looking for a replacement.

HP serviced HP 42s not by repairing (opening) them, but by exchanging the faulty unit with a new one. This service costs some U$S 70 in the USA. The new units are really brand new, made in Indonesia and with a rather current serial number. This service is supposed to be available during the next five years after product discontinuation, so it is about to end very soon. Check with HP, hurry up! Note: no questions will be asked about the failures, it will just be exchanged. The new unit should come with its own batteries, batteries cover and vinyl pouch; just in case some part of yours is missing.
