How do you know a Blanknut is not a fake? Message #1 Posted by Iqbal on 6 July 2000, 9:27 p.m. I am seeing quite a few Blanknuts for sale on the net [ EBay as well as the HP classifieds ]. Actually I was thinking of purchasing one. But I was going through a manual called 'A guide to HP Handheld Calculators and Computers' by Wlodek Mier-Jedrzejowicz [ quite a good book for any HP Calculator collectors I might add ]and in it is a colour photo of a Blanknut HP-41 but there is a small plastic bar over the USER and PRGM keys. I was just wondering if it is possible to 'doctor' a normal HP41 to appear as a Blanknut.

I don't think it would be too easy to rid the keys and the face of their markings. I have a 41cx halfnut blanknut, no plastic bar, and the logo on the end of the calc is in a definitely different script than a comparable 41cx, the big difference being there is no "41cx" in the label. So, I think if you were to look at that part, or is it just mine? BTW, I'm keeping this one. Dave

I think that because the company that ordered the blanknuts didn't want their users to turn off user mode or enter the program mode. I bought 3 of these at a surplus store for $5.00 each back in 94
