HP-97S I/O info needed
Message #1 Posted by Gianmaria on 25 June 2000, 10:32 a.m.

I'd like to know some informations about the HP-97S, who know what is the "test connector" mentioned into the Manual about the Interface Diagnostic Program?

Is there someone who realized a project with the I/O interface of that calculator (i.e. remote control)? Thanks.

Gianmaria,

The test connector is a plug that fits the interface pod and it used to test it (the pod) and the calculator. I'll post a picture at "www.intellistar.net/~rigdonj/test-conn.jpg" in a little while.

The "HP 97S Test Connector" is a male plug that plugs into the I/O connector on the interface pod of the HP 97S for the purpose of testing the interface pod and calcualtor. The test connector uses a standard Amphenol metal shell and 50 pin Amphenol male plug and has a rubber plug where the cable would normally exit the shell. Inside there is a small circuit board with one IC. The part number on the IC is 5061-3036 and the part number on the IC is 1820-1484.

I have posted pictures of the assembled test connector and the disassembled components at "http://www.intellistar.net/~rigdonj/test-conn.jpg" and "http://www.intellistar.net/~rigdonj/test-conn2.jpg".

BTW my 97s with the original test connector will be for sale on E-bay as soon as I have time to list it.

Many thanks Joe for all the informations and images about the test connector, I expect hot days when your HP-97S will come on Ebay...

Hi Joe - great to see you again here on the board.

I already feared, you would lose interest or make your statement true, that you'd never wanted to post support, tips, info, ... again.

It's great, that we don't use such a valuable member of our small community.

Ah yes - the photos are great

Gian,

I actually just recently completed a little project with my HP-97S. It's a CMOS battery-powered clock that runs while the calculator is off; the program that goes with it is used to either continuously read the clock or set the hours or minutes by manipulating the appropriate flags. The clock is protected against current drain through the interface pod, and it's also protected against power up/down transients so that the clock doesn't get set by accident. It's been running reliably for several weeks now.

Anyway, if you're interested, please take a look at http://www.vttoth.com/calcs/hp97s.htm.

Viktor

PS: Electronics wizzes out there, please forgive me if I've done anything sacrilageous; my excuse is that I'm a programmer, not a tinkerer by trade :-)

Viktor, I saw the project you realized and it seems very intresting and it was very well explained. I will try to realize too. Thanks!
