Before the HP World
Message #1 Posted by Wanderley Navarro on 25 June 2000, 12:44 a.m.

Before I had jumped in the HP World in 1976 with my first HP-25 I owned a non HP calculator that was stolen from me in college. Now I would like to identify it, but I only remember that it was manufactured by Panasonic, the body was black with light blue or green led display, with white keys and was a pocket scientific type. Maybe someone having The Collector's Guide to Pocket Calculators book could help me. Any help would be very appreciated.

Guy Ball's book "The Collector's Guide to Pocket Calculators has 24 entries for Panasonic calculators. Only 3 are identified as having "scientific" functions (transcendental functions), and only one of those 3 have a picture. That model is the "Panac S-1", which, according to the book entry, had a fluorescent display and worked on 4 AA batteries. The picture is black and white, so it is hard to make out the key color. They do not appear to be white, however. They could be brown or orange, but that's just a guess. On the other hand, the case appears to be black. The size is 3.5 inches by 5.75 inches.

The other scientific models listed in the book are the Panac SD-1 and the Panasonic 1403.

Perhaps Guy could shed more light on this mystery?

Todd
