2225B printing problems
Message #1 Posted by Brendon Nafziger on 18 Jan 2000, 8:50 p.m.

I have a 2225B printer for my 71B. Everything works fine but several rows of dots are are not printing. I have replaced the ink cartridge, priming it several times per the instructions, and have also cleaned the contacts in the print head without any results. Anybody have an idea about something else to try? Thanks in advance.

Remove the cartridge. Clean the contact surfaces on the foil of the print head carriage that is now exposed. Using a magnifier, look closely at the 14 brass plated bumps where electrical contact is made. You will probably find that several of the bumps have worn away and arced (if not, you are lucky, reinstall and seat carefully the cartridge, all should now be well). If arced away, buy a regular surplus ThinkJet (2225C) (usually under $10)with the bumps in good condition and swap the entire print carriage (also swap the two stepper motors so as to keep the originals in action, voltages vary). This fixed my wornout 2225B. The only special tool is a #9 Torx screwdriver.
