Dead 11C
Message #1 Posted by Jan Stübbe on 9 Jan 2000, 5:30 p.m.

MY 11C died on me the other day. Maybe on of you can help me? The battery seemed low and an asterisk appeared on the lower left hand corner of the display. I took the batteries out to warm them up a little and put them back in. The screen came back up and then went balnk comletely.

I replaced the batteries right away, but to no avail.

If anyone could advise, I would be most grateful,

Jan

You might want to remove the batteries and shorten the battery contacts in the calculator to empty some internal capacities.

You could also remove betteries and push the ON - Button for a long time - that helps sometimes, because it's an interrupt to the CPU and the CPU needs more current from the internal capacitor. Note: this can take VERY long or may not work at all.

If you don't have success with this methods remove the batteries and let it lie in a drawer, let's say for two weeks or longer. That could help to discharge. CMOS has VERY low standby currents and this can take very long.

Personally I'd shorten the battery contacts. You can also clean the contacts - this wouldn't hurt anyway, even if you don't see some dirt.

What was working? Shorting the contacts or letting it lie somewhere for some hours ?
