HP 9114 woes
Message #1 Posted by Steve on 19 Dec 1999, 4:54 a.m.

I've finally rebuilt the battery pack for my 9114B HP-IL drive.

I'm using it with an HP41.

When I try to do a NEWM 050 (I use 50 as it seems like a good number...) The drive clicks away for a while (sounds like it's formatting) and then comes back with MEDM ERR.

I'm using DSDD disks (I've tried 2, but they're not exactly new). DSHD disks give up almost immediatly, so I'm sure that at least part of the format goes correctly with the DSDD disks.

Are there any things I've obviously forgotten?

Should I try cleaning the heads?

You're doing it correctly. Just make sure you use 720k disks and not the 1.44 or 2.88Mb ones. Sounds like you have a bad 9114.
